Ancillary alternative idea.

I have used a Julian Opie style graphic style to test out using off of the band members in one shot, stood around the car used in my music video.
This wasn't as successful as I hoped and I would use the original ideas over this one. However, this technique may be useful when it comes to the album cover as I could adopt a 'Blur' album cover style.

Ancillary 1 Production - Magazine Adverts

I have four magazine adverts here, one featuring each band member. These will be used in different magazines and switched between throughout the advertising campaign.

This one features Chris in front of an abstract background. I kept the colour splashes of the background to add a different colour tone to the image as he is wearing quite neutral colours that don't contrast too much with a monotone background.
This one features Rob leant up against a railing as per my first idea. I have used a colour splash so that he is the only thing in colour, making him stand out and anchoring the band's conventions through all of the adverts. I chose to add a blue smoke as I think this best fits the image, as he is wearing blue so it doesn't add another colour which would take the focus away from the band member.
This one features Anna swinging on a goalpost. This scene (or at least a very similar one) was used in my music video and so shows continuity between the medias and fans will be able to notice this. Again, I have used a monotone background to contrast the band member to and to anchor the band's branding.
This one features Tom leant against a graffitied wall. This location was also used in my production and so the iconography anchors the two medias. I have photoshopped the graffiti so that it looks cleaner, making the image more appealing to look at. As with the others, I have used a monotone background.

On all of the adverts, I have included convergence logos for both iTunes and Spotify, pointing out to the audience how they can access the bands' music. I have also added the key date for when the album will be released so that they can anticipate the release in advance. I have also added the band name - 'Falling at the Disco' - and the album name - 'Smoke Metal' - to the advert. The enigmatic feel of the adverts may interest the audience to search for the band online, finding more about them and hopefully becoming a fan of them. All of these features are typical of a magazine advert from the indie(rock) genre.

First draft (missing part of it)

Here is my first draft with the part driving to the field location missing. I am planning to film this week for this part and will upload a further draft once I have done so.

Magazine advert ideas.

I have been playing about on Photoshop with a screenshot I have taken from one of the videos I took.  I first started by making the blue smoke the only colour on the image but that wasn't as effective as I had hoped so I added colour to the band member also. This then looked quite effective and the composition of the image worked well as he is stood on the first rule of third line. I then downloaded some new watercolour brushes to create the effect on the right so that I could add text over the top and it be readable.

The font I am thinking of using is the one below, I think this will anchor the style created by the underpainting area and adds to the brand image of the band. I will use this throughout all of my work to show continuity.

The image I have used is only a low resolution as it is a screenshot of a video so with my remaining smoke bombs, I will set up similar scenarios with all of the band members for alternate versions for use in different publications. I will also retake this one so that the production values are higher, having a higher quality image.

Opening scene first draft

I have added a new opening scene idea, which is of one band member washing the car and then getting a call. From this it will be implied that he picks up the rest of the band as they will later get out of the car together at the field location.

Props: Other.

Time management.

These are my proposed schedules for my filming and editing.

Props: DIY smoke bombs

I have painted them black so that they look neater than just the toilet/kitchen roll tubes that they are as black doesn't show up on the video in too much detail from the distance I am filming from so the quality of the props will look of a better standard and add to the production value of my music video.

Overall, these props cost around under #20, but will play a major role in my final production, hopefully proving to be excellent value for money in terms of production value added.

Planning: Costume.

These are the types of costume that would be suitable for my music video. They are quite stereotypical of the Indie-rock genre.

Out of the three male costumes, I think that the left one is most suitable, but the other two would work well too, especially for the different actors so that they are not too similar.

Out of the three female costumes, I think the right costume is most suitable - being the most typical of the Indie-rock genre out of the three - but a combination of the three would allow my female characters to be unique from one another.

Planning: Props

I have ordered some smoke bombs to use in my production. They will be blue, red and white coloured. Each lasts around a minute so I have ordered 20 so that I can afford to trial a couple to set up shots.

Location Planning: Sheffield - Videos.

Here are a few test shots I have for the various locations previously mentioned.

Location Planning: Sheffield.

On the trip to Sheffield, I had a few places in mind that I thought would fit my production - these were used in my poll - the first was a derelict site near Kelham Island. When we visited this location construction had begun and we weren't able to enter as we were the previous year. My other suggestion was the car park near Hillsborough Stadium. I didn't visit this location as before this we went to Park Hill Flats and I found an ideal spot which had been boarded up and had some graffiti on so would fit the dirty location I desired quite well so I swapped this location for the Hillsborough car park. Thirdly, the front of Park Hill Flats were my third idea, but these, when visited in person, didn't match how I had imagined them and so I am not too interested in these anymore.
